Proposed Cap on Charitable Donation Tax Deductions

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

In the Government’s proposed 2010 budget, the Administration has proposed that families earning more than $250,000 per year will have a limit to how much they can claim on their taxes. This tax change will help raise funds for health care initiatives; however, it could adversely affect fundraising efforts. The Association for Healthcare Philanthropy has recently issued a position statement that can be accessed via this Web site: www.ahp.org/government-relations/

In addition, the Association for Fundraising Professionals has posted information regarding this tax change: http://www.afpnet.org/ka/ka-3.cfm?folder_id=2545&content_item_id=24818

How will this proposed tax change affect your organization? Will your fundraising organization make any adjustments to account for this change? If so, what? Please share how your organization is reacting to these changes so we can learn from each other.
